Canyoneer through Yankee Doodle Hollow
A perfect introductory slot canyon featuring a 90-foot rappel into a stunning, narrow sandstone corridor.
Itinerary tips
- 1Plan for a 3 to 4-hour round trip including the hike in and the technical canyon descent.
- 2Bring a 60-meter rope, harnesses, and helmets, or hire a local guide if you are not experienced with technical rappelling.
- 3Access the trailhead via the dirt Dixie Forest Road 031; a high-clearance vehicle is recommended but usually not mandatory in dry conditions.
- 4Pack at least two liters of water and sturdy approach shoes with good grip for the steep sandstone exit hike.
- 5No permits are currently required for this canyon, but you should check the weather forecast for any risk of flash floods before entering.
- 6Start early in the morning to secure one of the few parking spots available at the small pull-off near the canyon entrance.
