Visit the bison at Antelope Island State Park
Drive across the causeway to see free-roaming American bison, pronghorn, and bighorn sheep against the backdrop of the Great Salt Lake.
Itinerary tips
- 1Plan for a 2-4 hour visit to account for the 7-mile causeway drive and the loop through Fielding Garr Ranch.
- 2Pack bug spray containing DEET or picaridin, as biting gnats can be intense near the shoreline during spring and summer.
- 3Bring binoculars to spot bighorn sheep on the rocky hillsides and pronghorn in the grassy flats from your vehicle.
- 4Pay the vehicle entrance fee at the ranger station located at the start of the Davis County Causeway in Syracuse.
- 5Stop at the Buffalo Point trail for a short hike that offers the highest panoramic views of the herd and the lake.
- 6Keep a safe distance of at least 25 yards from bison at all times, even if they are blocking the paved road.
