Itinerary tips

• 1Plan for at least three to four hours to account for winding roads and frequent photo stops at viewpoints.
• 2Start your journey in American Fork Canyon (SR-92) and exit through Provo Canyon to avoid backtracking and see the full loop.
• 3Purchase a $6 three-day pass at the automated fee stations at either canyon entrance, as displayed permits are required for parking at overlooks.
• 4Pack a light jacket even in summer, as temperatures at the 8,000-foot summit are significantly cooler than in Salt Lake City.
• 5Download offline maps before heading out, as cellular reception is non-existent for large stretches of the high-mountain terrain.
• 6Stop at the Cascade Springs turnoff for a short, boardwalk hike to crystal-clear natural springs halfway through the drive.
