Visit the Hardware Wildlife Management Area
AdventureEasyWinter
Ride a horse-drawn sleigh through hundreds of wild Rocky Mountain elk that descend into the meadow every winter.
Itinerary tips
- 1Book your sleigh ride tickets online in advance through the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources website as walk-ins are rarely accommodated.
- 2Dress in heavy layers with wind-resistant outerwear, as the open-air sleigh rides across the meadow are significantly colder than the parking area.
- 3Plan for a 45-minute drive from downtown Logan, navigating Highway 101 through Blacksmith Fork Canyon which can be icy in winter.
- 4Bring a camera with a zoom lens to capture close-up shots of the bull elk without needing to exit the sleigh.
- 5Allocate at least two hours for the full experience, including the sleigh ride and time spent in the educational visitor center.
- 6Pack hand warmers and a small thermos of hot cocoa to stay comfortable during the 20-to-30-minute ride among the herd.
