See the Jardine Juniper
Hike to see one of the oldest living trees in the world, a 1,500-year-old gnarled juniper standing guard over the canyon.
Itinerary tips
- 1Plan for a 10-mile round-trip journey and allow at least 5 to 6 hours to complete the trek comfortably.
- 2Carry at least two liters of water and high-energy snacks, as there are no water sources along the ridge.
- 3Navigate to the Wood Camp trailhead located approximately 12 miles up Logan Canyon on US Highway 89.
- 4Choose the 'scenic' fork on the way up for canyon vistas and the 'shady' fork for the return trip to protect your knees.
- 5Arrive at the trailhead before 8:00 AM on weekends to secure a parking spot in the small gravel lot.
- 6Pack a light windbreaker or shell even in summer, as the ridge line near the tree is frequently gusty and cooler than the valley.
