Drive the Kolob Fingers Road
Explore the less-visited northwest corner of Zion, where a 5-mile scenic drive leads to breathtaking overlooks of massive red finger canyons.
Itinerary tips
- 1Budget 60 to 90 minutes for the round-trip drive and time to walk the short paved paths at the viewpoints.
- 2Enter the park through Exit 40 off I-15, which is about 40 minutes north of St. George and separate from the main Zion Canyon entrance.
- 3Display your America the Beautiful pass or Zion entrance receipt, as there is a staffed ranger station at the trailhead that requires valid entry fees.
- 4Pack a picnic to enjoy at the Timber Creek Overlook, which offers picnic tables with views extending to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon on clear days.
- 5Bring a light jacket even in summer, as the elevation here is significantly higher and temperatures are often 10-15 degrees cooler than St. George.
- 6Check the NPS website for road status in winter, as the drive can occasionally close briefly due to snow or ice at the 6,000-foot summit.
