Hike the Navajo-Queen’s Garden Loop
Descend into the 'silent city' of Bryce Canyon to stand beneath towering orange spires and the iconic Wall Street switchbacks. The cool October air makes the steep ascent back to the rim much more manageable.
Itinerary tips
- 1Start at Sunset Point and hike clockwise toward Sunrise Point to descend the steep Wall Street switchbacks rather than climbing them.
- 2Allocate 2.5 to 3 hours for this 2.9-mile loop to account for frequent photo stops and the elevation gain at the end.
- 3Carry at least two liters of water and wear boots with aggressive tread to handle the loose, gravelly 'scree' on the canyon floor.
- 4Park at the Visitor Center and use the free Bryce Canyon Shuttle to reach the trailhead, as the Sunset Point lot often fills by 9:00 AM.
- 5Check the National Park Service website for 'Wall Street' trail closures, as this section often shuts down during winter or heavy rain due to rockfall risk.
- 6Pack a light windbreaker even in summer, as the canyon floor remains significantly cooler than the exposed rim.
