Explore the Cassidy Arch Trail
HikingChallengingSpringFallWinter
Trek to a massive natural arch named after Butch Cassidy, offering a spectacular bird's-eye view of the Grand Wash in Capitol Reef.
Itinerary tips
- 1Plan for a three-mile round trip that takes approximately two to three hours depending on your pace and time spent photographing the arch.
- 2Access the trailhead via the Grand Wash Road off Highway 24, but be aware that the unpaved road may close during flash flood warnings.
- 3Carry at least two liters of water and wear boots with excellent traction to navigate the steep switchbacks and slickrock sections.
- 4Arrive at the Grand Wash parking lot before 9:00 AM to secure a spot, as the small trailhead area fills up quickly during peak seasons.
- 5Look for the cairns (small rock piles) to stay on the trail once you reach the open sandstone plateaus near the top.
- 6Walk across the top of the arch for a unique perspective, as it is one of the few natural spans thick enough to safely stand upon.
