Rappel down Medieval Chamber
Experience a classic Moab canyoneering route that includes two massive rappels and a finish near the Morning Glory Natural Bridge.
Itinerary tips
- 1Pack a 60-meter rope and a full rack of technical canyoneering gear as the final rappel is a 120-foot free-hang.
- 2Allocate 4 to 5 hours for the full loop, starting at the Sand Flats Recreation Area trailhead.
- 3Wear high-friction approach shoes to maintain grip on the steep, sandy slickrock sections.
- 4Carry at least three liters of water per person as the exposed sandstone sections have zero shade.
- 5Arrange a shuttle or leave a second vehicle at the Grandstaff Canyon trailhead to avoid a long walk back uphill.
- 6Check local weather reports for flash flood warnings specifically for the Grandstaff Canyon drainage before entering.
