Off-Roading on Hell’s Revenge
Hire a guide or rent a UTV to climb steep fins of petrified sand on one of the world's most famous and exhilarating 4x4 trails.
Itinerary tips
- 1Plan for approximately 3 to 5 hours to complete the full 6.5-mile loop at a safe, technical pace.
- 2Pack twice as much water as you think you need and high-protein snacks, as the desert sun is intense even in shoulder seasons.
- 3Enter through the Sand Flats Recreation Area gate and be prepared to pay the per-vehicle entry fee via cash or credit card.
- 4Download an offline GPS map like Gaia or OnX Offroad because the painted 'flame' markers on the rock can be confusing at intersections.
- 5Air down your tires to roughly 15-20 PSI before starting to increase traction on the steep, slickrock inclines.
- 6If you are a novice driver, hire a 'You-Drive' guide service to lead you through the intimidating 'Tip-Over Challenge' and 'Hell’s Gate' obstacles.
