Mountain Bike the Intrepid Trail System
Located at Dead Horse Point State Park, these loops offer incredible canyon rim views and mellow slickrock perfect for riders who want scenery without the extreme verticality.
Itinerary tips
- 1Arrive early at the Dead Horse Point State Park visitor center to pay the park entry fee and secure a spot in the dedicated trail parking lot.
- 2Plan for a 2-3 hour ride if you intend to complete the Big Chief loop, which offers the most dramatic overlooks of the Colorado River.
- 3Pack at least two liters of water and basic bike tools, as the high-desert exposure can be intense and the loops are far from the visitor center.
- 4Combine the Great Pyramid and Big Chief trails for a 12-mile ride that captures the best mix of technical slickrock and smooth singletrack.
- 5Ride the loops in a clockwise direction to optimize the flow of the terrain and the unfolding of the rim views.
- 6Download offline maps on an app like Trailforks or MTB Project before leaving Moab since cell service is unreliable at the park.
