Visit the American West Heritage Center

CultureEasySpringSummerFall

Step back in time at this living history museum, showcasing 19th-century pioneer, mountain man, and Native American life. Enjoy hands-on activities and historical demonstrations.

Itinerary tips

  • 1Plan for at least 3 to 4 hours to fully explore the different historical sites and participate in hands-on demonstrations.
  • 2Wear closed-toe walking shoes as you will be navigating dirt paths between the pioneer cabin, teepees, and farmstead.
  • 3Bring several small-denomination bills if you want to purchase additional feed for the farm animals or unique blacksmith wares.
  • 4Check the daily demonstration schedule upon arrival so you don't miss the high-excitement mountain man tomahawk throwing or black powder rifle displays.
  • 5Park in the large gravel lot directly off Highway 89/91; there is no fee for parking and the main entrance is clearly marked.
  • 6Pack plenty of sunscreen and water, as the expansive outdoor layout offers very little shade between the historical stations.
