Off-Road through Wasatch Mountain State Park
Rent a side-by-side or ATV to navigate the rugged Mineral Basin trails for a high-altitude look at the changing autumn foliage.
Itinerary tips
- 1Book your machine rental in Midway or at the state park visitor center at least two weeks in advance during peak foliage season.
- 2Plan for a four-hour excursion to allow enough time to reach the high-elevation overlooks without rushing the technical sections.
- 3Pack a high-quality dust mask or buff and polarized goggles, as the Mineral Basin trails become extremely powdery during dry spells.
- 4Download the Avenza Maps app or pick up a physical trail map at the park office, as cellular service is non-existent in the deep canyons.
- 5Ensure your rental includes a valid Utah Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) permit, which is mandatory for all vehicles entering the state park trail system.
- 6Pack a heavy windbreaker or insulated layer even in summer, as temperatures drop significantly once you ascend above 9,000 feet.
