Walk the Toadstool Hoodoos
Take a short, family-friendly stroll to see whimsical mushroom-shaped rock formations near Big Water and the Paria River.
Itinerary tips
- 1Locate the trailhead directly off Highway 89, approximately 45 miles east of Kanab or 12 miles west of Big Water.
- 2Allocate 60 to 90 minutes to explore the three distinct clusters of hoodoos beyond the initial main formation.
- 3Carry at least one liter of water per person even for this short distance, as the trail is entirely exposed to the sun.
- 4Wear closed-toe shoes with good traction to safely navigate the sandy washes and slickrock slopes near the formations.
- 5Utilize the free dirt parking lot at the trailhead; no permits or fees are currently required for this specific day hike.
- 6Walk past the first red toadstool to find the white 'ghost' hoodoos located further back against the northern rim.
