Sunset Photography at Sunset Point
ScenicEasyYear-round
Capture the 'glow' as the setting sun hits the iron-rich limestone hoodoos of Bryce Canyon, turning the entire basin into a vibrant orange furnace.
Itinerary tips
- 1Arrive at least 60 minutes before the scheduled sunset to secure a prime tripod spot along the rim railing.
- 2Pack a graduated neutral density filter or shoot in HDR to manage the high contrast between the dark canyon floor and the bright sky.
- 3Use the free park shuttle to reach the Sunset Point stop, as the adjacent parking lot often fills up two hours before dusk.
- 4Bring a headlamp for the walk back to your vehicle, as the rim becomes pitch black immediately after the golden hour fades.
- 5Walk 100 yards south toward Inspiration Point to find less crowded vantage points that offer unique angles of the Silent City.
- 6Dress in layers regardless of the season, as temperatures at 8,000 feet drop rapidly once the sun dips below the horizon.
