Hike the Delicate Arch at Sunset
Witness Utah’s most iconic geological feature glowing in brilliant fiery orange as the sun dips below the La Sal Mountains.
Itinerary tips
- 1Reserve your Timed Entry Entry Permit online well in advance if visiting Arches National Park between April and October.
- 2Arrive at the Wolfe Ranch trailhead at least 2.5 hours before sunset to secure parking and complete the 3-mile round-trip trek.
- 3Carry a high-lumen headlamp or flashlight for each person, as the sandstone return path becomes pitch black after the sun goes down.
- 4Pack at least two liters of water and a windbreaker, as temperatures drop rapidly and gusts increase once you reach the exposed rim.
- 5Walk all the way around the bowl to the far side of the arch to find unique photo angles without other tourists in your frame.
- 6Wear footwear with excellent rubber grip to safely navigate the steep, smooth slickrock sections that make up the middle third of the hike.
