Itinerary tips

• 1Plan for at least 2 to 3 hours for the round-trip drive to Bear Lake, allowing extra time for photo stops at the Wind Cave trailhead or Tony Grove Lake.
• 2Pack plenty of water and snacks as there are no gas stations or convenience stores along the 41-mile stretch between Logan and Garden City.
• 3Download offline maps before entering the canyon because cellular service is almost non-existent once you pass the First Dam area.
• 4Bring a light jacket even in summer, as temperatures at the summit can be 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the valley floor.
• 5Stop at the Tony Grove Lake turnoff for a high-elevation alpine loop, but note that this specific access requires a small US Forest Service day-use fee.
• 6Visit on a weekday morning if possible to avoid heavy weekend traffic from locals heading to Bear Lake.
