Drive the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway

ScenicEasySpringSummerYear-round

Navigate the winding Highway 89 through towering limestone formations and dense forests all the way to the Bear Lake overlook.

Itinerary tips

  • 1Plan for at least 2.5 hours round-trip to account for photo stops and the steep descent into Garden City.
  • 2Download offline maps and playlists before entering the canyon, as cellular service is non-existent for most of the drive.
  • 3Stop at the Wind Caves trailhead parking for a quick view of the 'Triple Arches' limestone formations from the road.
  • 4Pack a light jacket even in summer, as temperatures at the 7,800-foot summit are significantly cooler than in Logan.
  • 5Visit the Tony Grove Lake turnoff for a scenic side trip that adds only 14 miles but offers stunning alpine scenery.
  • 6Check your brakes before descending the 'Stretches' toward Bear Lake, as the grade is steep and sustained for several miles.
