Hike to the Bloods Lake Overlook
Trek through high-alpine terrain at the top of Guardsman Pass to reach a pristine turquoise lake reflecting the golden autumn aspens.
Itinerary tips
- 1Arrive early to secure one of the limited spots at the dedicated Bloods Lake Trailhead parking lot atop Guardsman Pass, as street parking is strictly prohibited.
- 2Allocate approximately two to three hours for the 2.8-mile round trip to allow time for photos and exploring the lake's shoreline.
- 3Bring a light windbreaker even in summer, as the high elevation often results in significantly lower temperatures and gusty conditions at the pass.
- 4Pack plenty of water and wear sturdy hiking boots to navigate the rocky switchbacks and final steep descent toward the water.
- 5Download offline maps before leaving Midway or Park City, as cellular reception is non-existent once you begin the ascent up the canyon.
- 6Keep dogs on a leash and note that they are not permitted to enter the water because the lake serves as a protected watershed.
